Media Release - Children in need to share the spirit of Christmas

Melbourne, Friday 9 December, 2011: The Point Cook Community Bank® branch, along with 15 Bendigo Bank branches in Melbourne’s west will donate over 150 gifts, spreading the Christmas cheer to children seeking refuge from domestic violence.
Bendigo Bank’s Footscray branch invited the Point Cook Community Bank® branch to take donations of toys and money for Women’s Health West to support children in need.
Women's Health West CEO, Dr Robyn Gregory, said she’s thrilled with the Bank’s support and generosity.
‘’Bendigo Bank’s efforts in organising donations of presents for children who will be staying at our refuge over the Christmas is heartening,’’ Dr Gregory said.
‘’Women fleeing domestic violence often leave with little except their children, and this gift drive offers those children the joy of receiving presents given from the heart.
‘’We sincerely thank all Bendigo Bank staff and customers for their generous support, which will help many children share in the Christmas spirit,’’ she said.
Bendigo Bank State Manager Victoria, Vicki Pearce, said the Bank is committed to achieving the best outcome for the community.
"It might just be a thought for many of us, but for some women and children in our community, needing a place to seek refuge from an unsafe home environment is a reality.’’
‘’Just like Women’s Health West, we are right behind initiatives that are focussed on making better the lives of people our community and we’re delighted to be able to help put a smile on the faces of children in our community this Christmas.’’
In 2010/11, Women's Health West provided more than 200 children and 50 women with emotional, legal and financial and accommodation assistance to deal with the impact of family violence.
