A simple test is being offered by Rotary that can help detect the early stages of bowel cancer. The annual Bowelscan program is being rolled out nationwide with support from Australian Rotary health.

But about 90 per cent of people with bowel cancer can survive if the disease is detected early. Bowelscan kits will be available at local phramacies from April 2010 and the costs of pathology processing will be waived for the duration. The tests are completed at home and returned to pharmacies. Those with symptons will be contacted for further testing. Last year 350 kits were sold in Hobsons Bay and almost 200 tests were completed.
